THE CENTRE FOR MINED LAND REHABILITATION, SUSTAINABLE MINERALS INSTITUTE, THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
One
of UQ's eight research institutes, the Sustainable Minerals Institute
(SMI) consists of some 400 staff and postgraduate students covering the
areas of mining and geology, mineral processing, environment and
rehabilitation, social responsibility, safety and risk, water and
unconventional gas. SMI is industry-focused and consequently works with
many leading global resources companies and many small-medium
enterprises and suppliers. SMI interacts strongly with governments and

The
Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation (CMLR) is one of the research
centres within the SMI. The CMLR is a multi-disciplinary unit that
collaboratively engages in a broad spectrum of environmental research
and education activities for the mining and miner processing industries
and associated government departments, at both national and
international levels

The
role: The successful appointee will have the opportunity to investigate
the habitat, climate and floristic interactions of temperate treeless
palustrine swamps (TTPS) in South Eastern Australia, and vegetation
classification systems.
The person: Applicants should possess a
PhD in ecology, environmental science, botany or related fields, as well
as have the ability to work with GIS data and conduct spatially based
statistical analyses. Candidates who have competence with ArcGIS,
eCognition and Random Forest will be preferred.
Remuneration:
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 1 year at Academic
Research level A or B depending on qualifications.
The
Remuneration package for Research Academic level A will be in the range
$72,443 - $77,764 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of
17% (total package will be $84,759 - $90,983 p.a.)
The
Remuneration package for Research Academic level B will be in the range
$81,858 - $97,205 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of
17% (total package will be $95,774 - $113,729 p.a.).
